Charity Shops and Country Life

I Feel Like Meakin Love
It's a sweet moment when you walk into a charity shop (CS) and you spot something lovely for a fabulous price.   This week my heart skipped a beat when I spotted this Meakin 'Country Life' china for only £8.  There are 22 pieces in total, all in relatively good condition.  The china is circa early 1950's  and I'm always amazed that these things manage to survive for so many years.

I love the rural scenes of hunting and fishing; makes me feel like Ma Larkin from The Darling Buds of May to see these in my dining room.  Sigh.

Butter knives
I love these little vintage knives; very Miss Kidston-esque.  Perfect for when Nanny gives the children supper in the nursery (ha!).

Sewing Machine
My local CS has on average a couple of sewing machines a month, sometimes more.  I am often tempted but don't buy as I already have a computerized Brother sewing machine.  There is little re-sale value in old sewing machines and they don't sell well on eBay because they are too jolly heavy to post.

However, that said, I enquired out of curiosity about the price of this one and the CS staff suggested that I take it home and see how well it worked.  Try-before-you-buy - I like that!  If I want to keep it, then I can pop back and pay £15 for it and they will PAT (portable electric test) test it for me.

This is why I love my local charity shop; I'm a regular and they're confident in the knowledge that I will either return to pay for the sewing machine or take it back.  I'll let you know if I keep it or not as I am giving it a clean and still deciding.  I love the sturdy chugging sound it makes; I also  have lots of old Singer sewing feet that I should be able to use with it.

Vote
And finally folks, this is the last opportunity to pop on over to Dorset Cereals and vote for my blog in their Little Blog Awards.  You can do that here.  Thanks for reading and have an 'ab fab' weekend.
