Atomic Blondies!

Don't you just love it when the most incredible female pop icon sneaks into a baking themed blog post?!  Following a request from number two son for some birthday blondies, I thought I would give some a go.  Never having made them before, I did a little recipe research and plumped for this yummy sounding Peanut Butter and Chocolate Blondies recipe from the Green and Blacks website.

For those who are not already in the know, a blondie is a brownie type traybake that substitutes white chocolate for the usual 70% dark chocolate.   There are all sorts of possibilities for added ingredients in the recipes I found, including macadamia nuts and a peanut butter frosting.  I messed about with the recipe to accommodate what I had in my store cupboard, using two 100g bars of white chocolate and 50/50 light brown sugar and caster sugar; I also melted one bar of chocolate into the cake mix whilst chopping the other bar into chunks and adding it.  The result is a more peanut butter tasting than white chocolate tasting cake and it doesn't have the lovely dense squidge factor of a brownie.

The general consensus of opinion is that the cake would benefit from a frosting and that adding the nuts and using one bar milk and one bar white chocolate would create a better blondie.  So my next attempt will be based on this recipe which seems to have the X-Factor for blondie desirableness.

I give you the original, one and only, punk rock chick goddess that is Debbie Harry.  This girl always did and still has the X-Factor; move over Lady Gaga, here is a real superstar.

Until the next batch of blondies, I'll leave you to ponder on your favourite Blondie song; for me it's got to be Hanging on the Telephone....no, hang on it's Heart of Glass, no, wait a minute...

PS Apologies to number two son for the two month slight delay in making your birthday blondies.
